No doubt if you’re a dino fan you know exactly what an iguanodon looks like, but do you know what he’s all about? He “lived 125 million years ago,” but no longer walks the Earth.” The iguanodon is what we call extinct, or not living anymore. If you take the bus to school you just might know how big it is because “it was about as long as a bus.” Now that is one big dino! As you can imagine, he weighs a lot as well. He was one big creature that “weighed as much as an elephant!” Those are only a couple of facts we know about the iguanodon, but you’ll learn many more in this book.Birds have beaks, but so did the iguanodon. They “did not have teeth in from of its mouth.” No teeth? Well, none in the front, but there were “teeth on the sides of its mouth.” If you take a close look at the picture, you’ll see the iguanodon chomping away on some plants. Yum! You’ll also see that it has thumbs, but they’re not at all like yours. They looked like big spikes. You’ll also learn about how the iguanodon walked, what his tail was for, and many other interesting facts about this amazing prehistoric beast.Young dino lovers will enjoy learning some fascinating facts about the prehistoric iguanodon. This book is targeted toward the emergent reader, but even preschoolers will love taking a walk with the iguanodon through these pages. The pages pop with representations of this massive beast, something that dino fans will love. There are some questions posed that will encourage young children to think about the iguanodon. For example, one asks “Why do you think old iguanodons used all four legs to walk?” In the back of the book is an index, a picture glossary, and a diagram showing the parts of an iguanodon.
