Enjoy coloring these 36 beautiful scenes of the Christmas season in this Christmas coloring book for adults by illustrator Ruth Sanderson. Like her first Christmas coloring book, Santa’s Christmas, these paintings have been carefully converted to grayscale. Ruth’s paintings have been reproduced in many children’s books, as well as on collectors plates, greeting cards and puzzles.Colored pencils work beautifully over grayscale images and the gray tones underneath help give realism and depth to the final colored image. Simply choose light, medium, and dark tones of each color to match the values in the pictures. This book will make a lovely holiday gift that families can share. The pictures are printed single-sided on 55# pure white paper.
I have all of Ruth's books. Her artwork is striking and remarkable. What a gift that we have these beautiful works of art exhibited around the country, right in our own home to color with our own interpretation.I got this Merry Christmas book last week, her latest Christmas one from many of her illustrations in books over the years. I am in love with it, it is as good as her Santa's Christmas, and you just want to do every page. The illustrations are nostalgic and remind us of the past, which is something I really love.Grayscale is very challenging and the darkness in the pictures makes the coloring dramatic and stunning. I have enclosed a couple of my colorings of Ruth's art to display how beautiful it is. If it is not dark enough you don't get that beautiful shading and light effect that makes the coloring so striking. It adds far more dimension than line art coloring and when you add the shading and blending it adds a 3d look to the pictures. If the grayscale is too light it makes it very hard to determine what some of the images on the paper are, and much harder to color. This one is perfect. The paper is good and I am able to layer several times to add shading and blending. I find I can use a great variety of pencils on it whether oil or wax based. These were done with polychromos and prismacolor pencils. I also used a Uni Signo white gel pen for snow effects.I would highly recommend this book, it has such a lovely variety of pictures, and honestly it is one of those books you want to color every page. Out of all the Christmas coloring books I have hers are my favorite, simply for the remarkable works of art they are.
